A Modern Approach to Web Site Design
If you're interested in building your own web site or Blog, but are not familiar with some of the technical items used here, don't let it concern you. Thats' why I do this work... to save you that headache.
I've been building HTML-based web sites for myself and others since 1998, and have gone through many of the usual phases that designers try. These have included various table-based layouts, Javascript, Flash, and CGI scripting. The trouble is, (because of web browser inconsistencies) that a web site that looks fine in one browser may look horrible in another one. These issues continue to improve, but they still exist.
In my experience, the combination of CSS and XHTML seems to provide the most consistent results, and so that's what I'm currently using. It's also easy for those with moderate HTML experience to understand, avoiding the need for a "super guru" of some kind, should you decide to do your own web site maintenance. For more details on this design approach, and why it's so powerful, see my "Tech Talk for Web Designers" page.
